The lime industry on Lismore operated 1780s to 1930s, at its peak employing 24 ships, exporting lime to the western seaboard, from the Orkneys in the north, to the Isle of Man in the south, and to the Clyde via the Crinan Canal. On their return, empty ships collected coal from Ayrshire, to fuel the kilns. |
